“How media literacy can help students discern fake news” aired on the June 6, 2017, edition of PBS NewsHour.
The piece, reported by Education Week‘s Kavitha Cardoza, featured Claire Beach discussing her work as a media literacy educator and advocate in Washington, as well as MLN’s effort to pass media literacy legislation in Washington and across the country.
PBS NewsHour’s summary:
“Recognizing bias in news stories is one form of media literacy. Spotting when the news is totally fabricated is something else entirely. How can teachers help students tell fact from media fiction? Educators and media literacy advocates in Washington state are working together with legislators to address the problem.”
Congratulations to Claire and all of our MLN state leaders, advocates, friends, and supporters. Media literacy is NOW.
